Coffee and motherhood go hand in hand. The moment moms are allowed to return to it's hearty goodness, they become glued to the stuff, but in the California summer heat the only way to go is to drink iced coffee. In recent years it's become extremely popular, but it's also become extremely expensive!
In addition to showing how easy it is to make your own iced coffee, I've added a review of Caveman Coffee Co.'s Sabertooth Roast Coffee. I received a bag of these coffee beans to review. What a better way to put them to good use than to use them in the Best Damn Iced Coffee Recipe?
- 10 cups of coffee
- 1 can sweetened condense milk
- ice cubes
- hand mixer or whisk
- Brew coffee and chill overnight in the pitcher.
- Add sweetened condensed milk into pitcher to taste.
- Use the hand mixer or the whisk to combine.
- Serve over ice.
About The Company
There are a few clues right on the Caveman Coffee Co. website, even before you read the ABOUT US section that tells you a lot about the company. Clearly the famous people in the testimonies show that this company has ties to the movie/television industry. The energy drink type instagram pictures that are on their feed and an endorsement by Joe Rogan screams MMA. Finally, the Paleo status to me points me towards CrossFit, since the only person I have ever known who was on a Paleo diet is heavily involved with our local Crossfit gym.
That being said, the three people who started Caveman Coffee Co. were smart. They found experts to work with including a specialty coffee roaster that owns their family farm and imports their beans from Colombia.
The description of this Brazilian Single Origin Coffee, is a complicated one:
Smoky on the nose, with notes of campfire marshmallows, vanilla pipe tobacco, and toasted hazelnuts.
It touts a balanced smoothness with a hint of lemon peel on the finish.
I have to apologize to Caveman Coffee Co. for my lack of experience when it comes to tasting this coffee. My pallet is not as sophisticated as it should be when it comes to things like this. I guess though that I am the "every mom" in the sense that I know what I like and what I don't like. Sadly, I don't usually pick up on the subtleties of coffee (or wine). When I started wine tasting, I basically had to buy about 15 bottles of wine before I figured out what I liked. My sweet tooth definitely gives my searches an obstacle to get over.
In the simplest like-dislike terms I can tell you that this coffee doesn't have an overwhelming smell of coffee or taste. Personally I like to know that it is coffee by the taste, but am glad I didn't have to deal with a bitter aftertaste on this one. I have a slightly sensitive stomach when it comes to coffee was glad to see that this didn't both me at all. I however receied some MCT oil and I did have a slight reaction to that so I didn't include it in my iced coffee recipe.
My caveman (Hubby) didn't particularly like this coffee. His complaint was the opposite of mine. He wanted something with a heavier bite to it and more caffeine power. In his defense, he's used to drinking extremely dark roasts that are made for guys who get up at three in the morning and start work by five in the morning.
I do like that this is my first chance to try a small-batch "designer" coffee. I think in any other setting I'd shy away from going "designer" when it comes to my coffee. Caveman seems to take the guess work out of trying something new and makes this stay at home mom feel right at home with Hollywood Celebs, MMA stars and CrossFit fanatics drinking Sabertooth Roast.
